crocodile and kangaroo? - iconic Autralian food

A few days ago i had ask myself which food is typically in Australia. I research in our best friend: Google! Google says a lot (shit!) but for me the most interessting foods are in the following.

On the one side the traditional Australian cuisine is in line with going outback. Food must be non- perishable and easy to produce. On the other side a lot eating habbits came from Great Britain with the beginning of colonisation. Anymore  many asian people live in Autralia. They had emigrate and brought some typically chinese dishes with it.

Vegemite

 1. Vegemite - "the taste of Australia"

Vegemite is a food paste of concentrate yeast extract. Australian people are eating vegemite on toast and sandwiches, like cream cheese in germany. It is a by- product of beer- production.

2. Pavlova - more than sweet!

Pavlova is the most sweetest and fat thing i had ever seen. It is a cake- dessert based on sweet cream and meringue (Baiser), filled with cream and fruits.  Pavlova has a crisp crust and is soft inside.

3. Damper - for hard and long bush- times!

Damper is made from bushman out of necessity. It consists of easy components: flour, water, butter, milk and salt. This white bread is baking in 10 minutes and is fast to eat. Not really nutrient but who says: "Necessity is the mother of intention!"

4. Meat Pie - "the Australian hamburger"

The most favourite takeaway fast food in Australia. It is a small cake filled with minced meat, onions, cheese and a typically sauce. I know- Meat Pie don´t will be my favourite dish! ;-)

5. red meat - "Let´s do a barbecue!"

The Australian people are eating a lot of red meat, espacially beef. Also lamb and pork.

And the end of my report i will say that the Australian cuisine can be much healthy generelly. Fresh fish and meat, vegetable, friuts, native oil and a mild preperation is the basic of a natural, firm diet to keep fit. If you want to get it - take it!

  1. You don't need fish and meat to keep fit ;) I am a vegan and go for a ride with my mountainbike 7 days a week between 1 1/2 and 2 hours :)
